Kashagan Field (Kazakh: Қашаған кен орны, Qashaǵan ken orny) is an offshore oil field in Kazakhstan's zone of the Caspian Sea. The field, discovered in 2000, is located in the northern part of the Caspian Sea close to Atyrau and is considered the world's largest discovery in the last 30 years, combined with the Tengiz Field. Offshore fields account for 41% of total Caspian crude oil and lease condensate (19.6 billion barrels) and 36% of natural gas (106 Tcf). In general, most of the offshore oil reserves are in the northern part of the Caspian Sea, while most of the offshore natural gas reserves are in the southern part of the Caspian Sea. The Rakushechnoye oil and gas field is located 100km off the western coast of Russia in the Caspian Sea. It is being developed by PJSC LUKOIL. Rakushechnoye is LUKOIL’s third biggest project in the region after the Yury Korchagin and Vladimir Filanovsky fields. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources proposed to auction three unexplored sites on the Caspian Sea shelf. Earlier, in January 2020, LUKOIL has asked for the right to explore them. The officials are deciding the fate of Tyuleniy-1, Tyuleniy-2, and Tyuleniy-3 sites. The Caspian Sea also contains valuable fishery resources, including 90% of the world’s stock of sturgeon; The BTC pipeline runs for 1,768 kilometers from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea to Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The route includes a 443 km segment in Azerbaijan, 249 km in Georgia, and 1,076 km in Turkey.
